Reading Reflection #2

As I get farther into A Million Little Pieces some of my questions are getting answered. Last reading reflection I finished my response by saying “I am still in the dark about how James became to be a drug addict and alcoholic.” Now I know how old he was when he started all of his addictions and how his addictions became greater year after year. For example, “started stealing sips from drinks at seven” (page 94- paragraph 3) and after that his drinking progressively got worse “Twenty-two. Accelerated alcohol abuse, accelerated crack abuse.” (Page 95- paragraph 1)

"Oh My Gosh" Moment
As I continued reading I had my first “OH MY GOSH” moment… Have you ever been an excuse for a friend to go on a date with someone else? I definitely have been that excuse, where my friends go on a date with a boy, but their parents think they are with me. In the book, James shared this memory, where his only friend asked him to be her alibi so she could go on a date with a high school boy. The next day James finds out that his friend was killed when a train hit the date’s car. That memory frightened me because James was blamed and was left with inner guilt. If anything happened to my friend when I was there alibi I would be flooded with guilt! That part in the story scared me, because I made a text to self-connection way to easily.

I still have no idea who this mystery lover is!? James also keeps saying that he’s planning on leaving the facility. My prediction is he will stay till he stops vomiting every day and does not have the urge to continue substance abuse.

Writing Reflection #2

Second week of blogging and I am behind. As school got busier, hockey playoffs started, and with the university open houses, my blog posts became scarce. Based on last week, my goal for the upcoming week is to get my blog up to date, along with my personal additions! The highlight of this week was following my friends and visiting their blogs. It is neat how everyone writes different and everyone’s blogs reflects their personalities. The traffic and comments on my posts are another aspect of blogging that I love. The six word memoires were fun to write and I cannot wait to add them to my pictures!

Writing Reflection #1

After my first week of having a blog I have found that it is everything I could imagine it too be, fun and interesting. I found the doodles and listography assignments a nice way to show my creative skills and also give my blog some life! Only problem is that I have been so obsessed with maintaining my blog I have forgotten to maintain my RWN (readers-writers notebook.) Hopefully I can keep me RWN and blog maintained equally. My plan is also to create more personal additions, because this week I found myself struggling with those. Finally, I need to pay attention to my spelling and grammar on my blog.

Reading Reflection #1

A Million Little Pieces by James Frey is a memoire I am currently reading. I have learned that James is a 23 year old male. In his own words he says “I am an Alcoholic and I am drug Addict and I am a criminal.” I have found this book does a good job at pulling the reader into the story. The author uses so much description that a reader can find some kind of connection to the writing. In one part James visits the dentist to get his front four teeth reconstructed. He goes into graphic detail about his nerves and the pain he has to suffer though. For example, “…I try to prepare for the sander and the sander hits the fragment of my left outside tooth. The sander bounces slightly and white electric pain hits my mouth and the sander comes back and holds and pain spreads through my body from top down and every muscle in my body flexes…” (Page 65 – second last paragraph) With this chapter about James’ visit to the dentist I easily make a text to self-connection. After I got my braces off, the orthodontist pulled out this sander to sand down my front teeth. I could hear the sander get closer until I felt the bounce against my tooth. Instantly I clench up due to the sander hitting the nerves on my teeth. It’s a very uncomfortable feeling and I was greeted with that memory while reading this chapter. I am still in the dark about how James became to be a drug addict and alcoholic. I am starting to read a couple of blurbs about this mystery girl who at one point was his friend Lucinda’s roommate. Did he lose his way because of his love for Lucinda’s roommate?

Quotes that mean something to me (#10)

My favorite Quote:

"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." - Walt Disney

A Quote that my friend used to describe me:

“Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.” ― Marilyn Monroe

My doodled footprint in the digital world

Hello, this is me.

Hello All Bloggers,

My name is Breanne and I am a senior in high school. I am really excited to start blogging since I have always wanted to but never knew what to write about. Due to the fact that I have never cooked through a whole cookbook, never moved in my life, and do not travel monthly. My forte has never been English class since through my K-12 years I was in French immersion. Hopefully, as I start to blog more, I will improve my English in spelling, writing and grammar skills.  That's one my goals of this year and I hope by the end of June I will also know what career I want to pursue as an adult.

Wish me luck,
Breanne
